This project was initially inspired by kaleidoscopic imagery, geometric patterns and fractals. I am fascinated by repetition in design and by the importance of repeating techniques to improve skill in the hot shop. This led me to research minimal and modular art and I decided to select a simple form that could be repeated to create far more complex and interesting structures. I find the properties of glass almost magical, and I wanted to use this opportunity to showcase some of the fascinating elements of my chosen medium.
Glass, in its’ transparent form, has a very special relationship with light. Choosing the primary colours of light - pink(magenta), yellow and blue(cyan) in translucent glass colours in which to make these pyramids, allows for new colours (orange, green and purple) to form, creating a piece that has elements of pattern change, just like those seen when looking through a kaleidoscope.
