Fusion

I have been interested in the relationship between contemporary sciences and nature for years, being drawn to the overlapping of repetitive organic and abstract forms. Working within a Hotshop (Allister Malcolm Glass Ltd) that recently has been striving to be as carbon efficient as possible has lead me to research more into renewable sources of energy for the future of our planet. ‘Fusion’ is a piece hopeful for the future of our energy resources, the orange glow of energy representing a greener world for our future generations, in hope to perfect energy sources such as nuclear fusion, HEP and wind power to obliterate the use of fossil fuels.

This piece is currently on display at the Stourbridge Glass museum.

This piece was living in my head for quite sometime before it became a reality… from the very first small cluster of hot assembled cones that I played around with while hiring back at the Wolverhampton University of Art  to the roughly 130 cones you see attached into a sphere here - it has been challenging to say the least!
This piece is created with two hot assembled hemi-spheres of cones that I have then cold worked to stick the halves together and slotted in extra cones filling any gaps along the circumference of the sphere.
I’ve definitely had enough of blowing cones for a while! 😅 if you would like to see more of the making of this piece please visit my instagram account.
