'LIFE IS LIKE A GUMBALL MACHINE'

For the first Challenge on Blown Away series 3 we were told to make something that represented ourselves, our way of thinking or general philosophy for life. I am a relatively positive person and decided to adopt the saying 'Life is like a box of chocolates' but change it to refer to a gumball machine, which I think is more representative of real life. Just as you can't choose what colour gumball the machine is going to spit out, you can't always choose what you get in life. Life can be unpredictable and bring you both ups and downs, the only thing to do is to make the best of what you are given and be thankful for what you have.

SWEET MEMORIES

After creating the gumball machine on Blown Away, I started reminiscing about the times I would go to the shops with my friends as a child and come home with striped paper bags bulging with sweets - and I wondered how many other people must share a similar fond memory. Nostalgia is defined as a 'sentimental longing or wistful affection for a period in the past.' I hope that my brightly coloured and playful bags of sweets evoke feelings of nostalgia and put a smile on people's faces. The world we live in is stressful and fast-paced and it is nice sometimes to stop and remember little things that have given us pleasure in our past.
